Looking for an English-speaking therapist in Oslo? Diane Cooper, LMFT provides individual, couples and family therapy in English and Norwegian. English-Speaking Therapist in Oslo
Finding the right therapist is an important and very personal decision. Feeling comfortable, understood, and able to express yourself freely is an essential part of the therapeutic process. For many people living internationally, being able to have therapy in English can make that process feel easier and more natural.
My name is Diane Cooper, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) providing therapy in Oslo in both English and Norwegian. I work with adults, couples, families, teenagers, and young adults experiencing relationship difficulties, stress, anxiety, life transitions, or simply wanting to better understand themselves and the patterns in their lives.
Living in another country can bring incredibly rewarding experiences, but it can also create challenges that are sometimes difficult for others to understand.
International families, expatriates, and people living between cultures may experience loneliness, relationship stress, questions around identity and belonging, difficulties adjusting to life in Norway, or the challenges of raising children and teenagers away from familiar support systems.
As an English-speaking therapist in Oslo with extensive experience working within an international community, I understand many of the unique challenges that can come with living abroad and navigating different cultures.
You certainly don’t need to be an expat or part of an international family to work with me. I provide therapy in both English and Norwegian and welcome people from a wide variety of backgrounds.
People come to therapy for many different reasons. You may be experiencing anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, loneliness, or a challenging period in your life. Sometimes there isn’t one particular problem—you may simply feel stuck or recognize patterns that you would like to understand or change.
Therapy provides a confidential space to explore what is happening in your life, understand yourself more deeply, and develop healthier ways of coping and relating to others.
Relationships inevitably go through difficult periods. Couples and families may find themselves having the same arguments repeatedly, feeling disconnected, struggling with communication, or trying to navigate significant changes in their lives.
As a Marriage and Family Therapist, relationships are central to my professional training and approach to therapy.
Therapy isn’t about deciding who is right or wrong. Instead, we work together to understand the patterns that have developed, improve communication, and help family members or partners feel heard and understood.
I offer couples and family therapy in English in Oslo, as well as in Norwegian.
I believe effective therapy begins with a strong and trusting relationship between therapist and client. My approach is warm, collaborative, practical, and non-judgmental.
Rather than applying the same method to everyone, I adapt therapy to the individual, couple, or family sitting in front of me. Together, we work toward understanding what is happening, identifying patterns that may no longer be helpful, and finding realistic ways to create meaningful change.
